These terms govern your use of Swiss-Knives. By using the site you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.
The service
Swiss-Knives provides browser-based utilities free of charge, operated by Swiss-Knives. There is no account, no subscription, and no contract for service beyond these terms. Tools may be added, changed, or removed at any time, and the site may be unavailable without notice.
No warranty, and what that means here
The site and its tools are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy of results.
This matters more than it usually does, because several tools here produce engineering figures. The electrical calculators implement standard published relationships and give useful estimates, but they make simplifying assumptions, and things like conductor ampacity and battery runtime depend on installation conditions no calculator can know. Treat every result as an aid to judgement, and verify anything safety-related against the applicable standard or electrical code — NEC, IEC, IPC, or your local equivalent — and against a qualified professional where required.
The same applies to the cryptographic tools. They use your browser's own Web Crypto implementation and are suitable for development, verification, and everyday use, but the strength of any result depends on choices you make — passphrase quality, key handling, how you transmit the output. For high-stakes or long-lived secrets, use audited, purpose-built tooling.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Swiss-Knives is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site — including any decision made on the basis of a result it produced. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Acceptable use
- Do not use the site for anything unlawful, or to infringe anyone's rights.
- Do not attempt to disrupt the site or the network it is served from, or to interfere with anyone else's use of it.
- Do not interfere with, obscure, or artificially interact with the advertising on the site.
Automated or scripted use is not prohibited, but the site is served from a CDN with finite capacity — keep request rates reasonable. Because every tool runs client-side, you can also just run the page locally instead.
Your data
Everything you enter into a tool is processed in your browser and never transmitted, so Swiss-Knives neither receives nor stores it, and cannot recover it for you. You retain all rights in whatever you enter and whatever the tools produce from it. The privacy page describes the handling in full.
Intellectual property
The site's name, design, code, and written explanations belong to Swiss-Knives. You may use the tools and their output freely, including commercially. You may not republish the site's written content wholesale or present the site as your own.
Advertising
The site carries third-party display advertising, which funds it. Advertisements and any sites they lead to are not controlled or endorsed by Swiss-Knives, and your dealings with an advertiser are between you and them.
Changes and governing law
These terms may be updated; the date at the top reflects the current version, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. They are governed by the laws of the operator’s country of residence.
